Our new normal

I recently sent an email to parents about the work I am doing with their children:

We have been playing games and having fun! But, there has been so much more happening under the surface.  The children have had to redefine what competition and collaboration means. They have had to reestablish how to share, listen to others, and have their voice be heard among peers. And, they continue to experience what success and frustration feels and looks like in a group setting.

If you have not done so, I invite you to take some of the reconnecting time at home to talk about emotions and behaviors at home. Name them, describe them, and accept that ALL emotions and behavior are normal. Hear their stories, praise their efforts and offer guidance for the hard moments.

I stand by these words…
